Welcome To Our Moose

It's good to be home.

I got home about an hour and a half ago, and for the longest time Si and I just layed on the hammock and
watched the dogs chew on each other, swinging in the cool mountain breeze.

Then I came into the house, and I saw - layed out on my recliner - my Moose bathrobe and a big box of
CheezIts. Hail the conquering hero!

Pikes Peak was an unmitigated disaster. I came in 106th out of 187 in my division. I was overtrained into
insensibility; it was the stupidest thing I've ever done. I'm keeping the medal and the mementos from the
race to remind me NEVER, EVER to do anything this stupid again. I considered turning around two miles
into the race; the only thing that kept me from doing so was an awareness that the people who would
take me back to the hotel were all waiting at the TOP of the mountain, and I had no way to get in touch
with them, so it was actually easier to go up (I thought) than to go back down.

I was very, very, very wrong.

I've got three Lessons Learned about the Pikes Peak Ascent which will come in very handy next time:

1) Don't sign up for it.
2) If I *DO* make the mistake of signing up for it, don't train for it.
3) If I *DO* train for it, stay home and don't go to the race

I'm glad to be home.
