Agony and Ecstasy
One of these people in this picture (call him Jim) spent all year training at high mileage and high intensity,
with cross training and nutritional supplements, for the Pikes Peak Ascent.
One of them (call him Marc) was barely able to jog a mile at the start of the year, and wound up with a
girdle contraption that held his pelvis in place long enough for him to hobble about. He started training for
the Pikes Peak marathon - twice the distance.
One of them was doing 14 milers twice a week, with repeats up a 3/4 mile hill at 7% grade, and a long
run on Sunday, four months ago. He worked up to Sunday long runs at 7000 feet elevation on a dreadmill,
with 12 miles at 10% grade.
The other one was doing 5K training. Near the end, he threw in a few 20 milers and some runs up La Luz.
Oh, yeah, he was also doing some mountain biking.
One of them - the one that did all the training - gained fifteen to twenty pounds of muscle. The other one - the
one with the girdle doing the 5K training program - lost twenty pounds.
Guess which one of them met his goals in Colorado Springs? :)
I hate Marc Scudamore :)
